Welcome to my blog!

A little about me, I’m a small town girl (living in a lonely world! – can’t resist a Journey moment) with three kids, one husband, three cats and one dog. Phew, I’m tired already. I work hard but play harder (but less alcohol is involved these days).

I’ve recently fell in love with running. Yes – muscle cramping, sweat inducing, tear provoking, “move your blooming arse” – running.

I don’t know how it happened really. I decided to lose some weight. Having gained weight with my third (and final) pregnancy, my self esteem was about as low as it could go. And my weight, well that was about as high as it should NEVER be for any 5’4″ woman. My wake up call – ziplining. I planned a day trip for the hubby and I. We went to the mountains and went ziplining. No one said there would be pictures. There were pictures. Horrifying pictures of a short, overweight tattooed mom strapped in a harness with a helmet on. Can you say mortified? I can.

So, I started to lose weight – first with Visalus, then with Weight Watchers. About 2 weeks in I decided I needed to start exercising. That lead me to our local track where I huffed and puffed and made little progress.

Then I heard about a program at my work – The Women’s Running Club. Basically you train for 2 months for a women’s only 5K. So I signed up, bought some running shoes and the rest is … well… the present.

I’ve been running for three weeks now. I’m up to about 3 miles a run and averaging 12-13 minutes a mile. Running may not be the best word for what I do – maybe jogging (or shuffling) would be more appropriate.

Regardless, I’m moving! And my weight is decreasing. And the Running School officially starts TONIGHT (in the 90+ degree heat). Wonder what group I’ll be in? I did pretty well on my assessment run for school – 12:09 mile. Considering at assessment time I had been running maybe three times, I was pretty darn proud of myself.

And what’s better – I’ve already signed up for several 5K and a half marathon (in February). Dear Lord, help me.

So, join me as I take on this challenge of not only getting into shape and decreasing my weight, but also exploring this new passion – running!

Oh and my nickname is Kiwi. Hence the name of the blog.
